Hello from Rebecca and David Marcus. On May 16, 2015 we will be called to the Torah in celebration of our B’nai Mitzvah.
We have been asked by our synagogue, Temple Israel of Lawrence in Lawrence, NY to each choose a project that would be considered our Mitzvah Project. The word Mitzvah translates in English to mean a moral deed performed as a religious duty. As such, the term mitzvah has also come to express an act of human kindness.
Based on this definition we knew that we wanted to do projects that have a strong personal meaning to us.
As a lifelong food allergy (and seasonal allergy) sufferer, for David the choice was clear: to do something that could help other kids live their life with ease and safety with this “disability.”
For Rebecca, who loves dogs, she very much wanted to include animals in her quest to help kids.
We remembered that about 5 years ago our cousin Alyssa chose her Mitzvah project that combined both of our interests by supporting Angel Service Dogs as they train dogs to detect allergens for kids with life-threatening food allergies. The more we learned about Angel Service Dogs the more we knew this was the perfect Mitzvah Project for us! As we are twins, we have decided to divide and conquer with two separate goals. We want to deeply thank you in advance for taking the time to donate to each of our two different projects. Large or small, every single penny helps this wonderful organization!
Updated on this date: 5-5-2015, together they have raised: $1968
